continuation 50 feet in width up to the "Chandos Arms")
were prepared by me, and under the direction of your Board
I made the necessary arrangement with the Surveyors of
Earl St. Germans and the Christ's Hospital for giving up
the land. The importance of making the main arterial
thoroughfare of the district not less than 50 feet wide cannot
be overstated.
I made a survey of the roadway, &c., at Sydenham
Green, for the purpose of laying out a midway as nearly 70
feet in width as possible, and widening the Railway Bridge.
The Stone Yard at Penge has had a substantial split oak
fence erected round it with a brick plinth, with Cart Sheds,
Store-room, &c. The cost of the whole up to the present
time is £246 2s. 10d.
I estimated the cost of a New Railway Bridge, Forest
Hill Station, for improving the Roadway, at £2,000.
There were several other improvements suggested, of
minor importance, some of which were carried out during the
year.
NEW STREETS.
The work of paving and forming the Ryecroft Road
was completed. I may say the Canterbury and Ravensbourne
Villa Roads were nearly finished. The Tar Pavement of the
latter roads was delayed until the spring, and some inconvenience
was experienced.
The work of the Court Hill Road was commenced, but
in consequence of the tardiness of the Contractor it was taken
out of his hands. I am now finishing the Tar Pavement.
In Penge the works of the lower portion of the Belvedere
Road were finished, as also the Queen Adelaide Road
and the Intermediate Road, South Penge Park. I prepared
the Plans, Specifications, &c., for these roads, and made Surveys,
&c., for the following Roads, the works of which are not
yet commenced.
