I am directed by the Sanitary Committee to call your attention
to the matter, under the hope that you will give the Port
Authorities the necessary instructions to prevent any chance of
articles, supposed to be infected, being again sent to the Lambeth
wharf. I need hardly point out the great danger which might
arise from infected rags, or other articles being opened and
handled by the men at the wharf.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
To the President of the Henry J. Smith,
Board of Trade, Clerk to the Vestry.
Whitehall.
Local Government Board,
Whitehall, S.W.
23rd October, 1884.
Sir,
I am directed by the Local Government Board to forward,
for the information of the Vestry of the Parish of Lambeth, the
accompanying copy of a communication, which they have received
from the Port of London Sanitary Committee, in reference to
certain bales of rags imported from Marseilles, and referred to in
your letter of the 4th of August.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
To H. J. Smith, Esq., Alfred D. Adnan,
Vestry Clerk for the Assistant Secretary
Parish of Lambeth,
Vestry Hall, Kennington Green, S.E.
