9 OCTOBER, 1889. 39
The complaint contained in the said report of the
Medical Officer of Health is
That there is not sufficient light to the ground floor
rooms.
That the house is so built in as to prevent its being
properly ventilated.
That all the walls of the rooms are damp.
That the floor boards are decayed.
There is a further complaint to the effect that the Court
in which the house is situate is so built in at both ends as
to prevent proper ventilation.
The complaint which is dated the 16th July last,
referred to the then condition of the house, but since
that date the buildings in the rear have been pulled down
which has left a large and open space at the back.
The house consists of two rooms both of which are
lighted by a window in the front and also at the back.
There is a washhouse and small yard belonging to the
house.
The remedy for the complaint contained in the said
report of the Medical Officer of Health is to insert a
damp-proof course in the walls of the said house. To
take out the decayed portion of the flooring and to reinstate
the same with new, and to repave the yard and
so much of the court in the front of the house
The complaint of want of sufficient light to the ground
floor rooms has been already remedied by the removal of
the buildings in the rear.
In my opinion if these works be executed it will not be
necessary to demolish the said house in order to remove
the complaint contained in the said report of the Medical
Officer of Health.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
(Signed) JNO. M. KNIGHT,
An Engineer appointed to report on the
said house under the said Act.
Vestry of the Hamlet of Mile End Old Town.
Vestry Hall, Bancroft Road, Mile End Road, E.
