You have purchased 400 tons of 4 inch Aberdeen
Granite Pitching to lay in crossings, which cost the
sum of 408l. 6s. 8d.
Carriageway Paying.
The Vestry having been enabled to purchase a
quantity of second - hand Pitching from the City at
a cheap rate, I was directed to lay 2,400 yards in Globe
Road, the cost of which was 780l.
New Streets.
During the year you have taken to Regent Street
South, John Street, Albion Street, Carter Street, and
Goodman's Road, being an addition of 1,900 feet lineal,
or 76,000 feet superficial to the roads of the Hamlet.
Regent Street South, John Street, Albion Street, and
Carter Street, were made up by you under Contract
with Mr. Pound, at a cost of 1079l.; of this amount
the owners of property contributed the sum of 319l. 4s. 5d.
I append a tabular statement shewing the cost of
materials, labour, scavenging, and horse hire, for the
year ending the 25th of March, 1866. You will find
that the cost of horse hire for scavenging has largely
increased during the last three years, the difficulty
being in finding places of deposit for the slop within
a reasonable distance of the Hamlet. The tenders for
the current year being nearly double that of the past
you determined to hire horses and perform the work
yourselves, and I anticipate that a large saving will
be effected by pursuing this course.
