system of local and independent action, and favorable
to centralisation, have been put forward with some
pertinacity and have found advocates in some quarters.
The Vestry have not hesitated to oppose this movement,
although, not wishing to give it too much importance,
they have refrained from taking any very prominent
part in the controversy. Theories, founded upon data
so slight, will probably prove as ephemeral as they are
unsound, but the Vestry will carefully watch their progress
and spare no exertion necessary to uphold the
cause of local self-government.
The accounts for the year ending 25th March,
1866, were in due course laid before the Auditors,
vouched and allowed. The abstract of the accounts
shewing the receipts and expenditure of the Vestry
with their assets and liabilities is published with this
Report.
