Houses Let in Lodgings.—The proposed by-laws
under Section 26 of the Housing and Town Planning
Act, in respect of houses let in lodgings or occupied by
members of more than one family, have not yet been
confirmed by the Minister of Health.
Drainage of Buildings.—The following drainage
plans were submitted to and approved by the Public
Health Committee:—
Plans of drainage of new houses 11 blocks of flats
„ „ additions to existing buildings 41
„ the reconstruction of the drains of existing buildings 80
Certificates Under the Revenue Acts.—Applications
were received for certificates under the Revenue Acts,
for exemption from or reduction of inhabited house
duty in respect of 510 tenements, of which 480 were
granted and 30 refused.
Certificates of Water Supply.—Certificates of water
supply were given in respect of 7 new houses.
Increase of Rent (Restriction) Act, 1920.—Under
Section 2 of this Act, a tenant is entitled at any time, not
being less than three months after the date of an increase
of rent permitted by the Act, to apply to the County
Court for an Order suspending such increase, on the
ground that the house is not in all respects reasonably
fit for human habitation, or is otherwise not in a reasonable
state of repair. Before he can succeed the tenant
must satisfy the Court by the production of a certificate
of the sanitary authority or otherwise that his application
is well founded.
110 applications were received and 83 certificates that
their houses were not in a reasonable state of repair,
were given In 27 cases the certificate was refused,
In each case in which a certificate was given a notice
under the Public Health (London) Act or the Housing
and Town Planning Act was served upon the owner requiring
the execution of the work necessary, to put
the premises in a reasonable state of repair, and on
this being complied with, a certificate was given that
the Council's requirements had been completed, and that
the premises were now in a reasonable condition pf
repair.

Bacteriological Work.—The following bacteriologica examinations were made either by Dr. Burnet, or at the Laboratory of the Tuberculosis Dispensary.
