Proceedings under the Public Health (London) Act
for failing to comply with the Council's notice were
instituted in 19 cases, and in 4 orders were made to
abate the nuisances.
Housing and Town Planning Act, 1919.—376 notices
were served under Section 28 of the above Act requiring
the owners to do certain works which in the opinion of the
Council were necessary to make the houses in all
respects reasonably fit for human habitation. In 20
houses in which the owners failed to do the work the
necessary repairs were carried out by the Council's workmen
at a cost of £1,355. Of this amount, £522 has been
repaid to the Council. In respect of 5 houses, appeals
have been lodged with the Minister of Health against
the Council's claims for repayment of the money expended.
