contribution from £300 to £600 a year as from
April 1st, 1921, but on submitting the proposal for the
sanction of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry pointed
out that this was a very large contribution to an Institution
of this class, and stated that in view of the very
urgent need of economy in all branches of expenditure
the proposed increase should be reconsidered. The
Ministry, however, intimated that they were prepared to
sanction a temporary increase in the present payment
to enable the Nursery Committee to deal with their
immediate financial difficulties. The Council thereupon
suggested to the Ministry that the proposed increase of
£300 should be sanctioned for one year only, and to this
the Ministry agreed.
