In addition to the notified cases, 67 cases of inflammation of
the eyes in infants came to the notice of this Department.
The Women Sanitary Inspectors or Health Visitors visited
every case to ensure that continuous treatment was being carried
out, and where necessary district nursing services were obtained.
Pneumonia.
The diseases acute primary pneumonia and acute influenzal
pneumonia are compulsorily notifiable under the Public Health
Infectious Diseases (London) Regulations, 1927, and during the
year under review 127 notifications of the first-named type of
pneumonia and 147 of the influenzal form of the disease were
received. The number of notified cases removed to hospital for
treatment was 134.
Polio-Myelitis and Polio-Encephalitis.
There were 2 cases of this disease notified during the year.

Puerperal Fever and Puerperal Pyrexia.
There; were 8 cases of puerperal fever notified during 1929,
and 7 of them received institutional treatment: 4 in St. Giles'
Hospital, 2 in M.A.B. hospitals, and 1 in The General Lying in
Hospital.
The number of puerperal pyrexia cases reported was 24, and
of these 20 received institutional treatment. Thirteen notifications
were received from private medical practitioners and 11 from
institutions and nursing homes.
