Dysentery.
One case of dysentery was reported, and it was found on
enquiry that the patient contracted the disease in Egypt during
Encephalitis Lethargica.
In 1929, five cases of encephalitis lethargica were notified.
The number of deaths from this cause during the year was 5. In
respect of 4 of these cases, the particulars provided by the death
certificate was the only knowledge this Department had of the
existence of these cases. In the remaining case the patient was
notified as suffering from the disease in March of the previous
year. The particulars of the notified cases and the deaths reported
during the year are shown in the following tables:—

Erysipelas.
125 cases of this disease were reported during the year, and
53 of the patients were removed to hospital for treatment.
Malaria.
Three cases of malaria were notified, and investigations
revealed that in two cases the patients contracted the disease in
India, and in the other in Mesopotamia during the war.
Ophthalmia Neonatorum.
Eighteen notifications of ophthalmia neonatorum were
received during the year. Eight of these were from private practitioners
