the work. The Sureties having been approved of and
accepted, a Bond was executed in the required amount.
The work is now making satisfactory progress, and the
Baths will be opened for public use before the close of
the year.
Camberwell
Baths and
Wash-houses.
The Commissioners in their last Annual Report
were enabled to state that with the consent of
the Vestry and the Local Government Board they had
purchased freehold land for £3,000 at the rear of Camberwell
Green (East side), which they considered to be eligibly
situated for Baths and Wash-houses in this part of the
Parish.
The Commissioners applied to the London County
Council for a loan of £3,000, and they advanced the money
to be repaid by 30 annual instalments at three and a
half per cent. interest.
Mr. Charles Barry was instructed to submit to the
Commissioners a list of Architects, to be taken from those
who had made application in answer to previous advertisement,
who should be requested to send in designs for the
Baths, and in making their selection therefrom they had
special reference to the Architects who had been successful
in previous competitions and carried out works for Baths and
Wash-houses for other parishes. The following Architects
were invited to send in designs, viz.:— Messrs. C. Bell, H.
T. Bonner, H. L. Florence, Spalding & Cross, T. Verity, and
Wilson, Son, & Aldwinckle; and Mr. Barry was requested
