This amount represents a large gain to the Ratepayers.
In addition to the appeal to the Assessment Sessions
by the Crystal Palace District Gas Company, notice was
also given by Mr. Marshall, Solicitor for the occupiers of
Phoenix House, Alleyn Park and St. Stephen's Vicarage,
Sydenham Hill, and your Committee ultimately decided, on
the report of the Clerk, that it was expedient to compromise
these appeals by agreeing to a slight reduction in each case,
and the Appeals were withdrawn by mutual consent, each
side bearing their own costs. Your Committee have to
congratulate the Vestry on the fact that only three persons
appealed to the Assessment Sessions, having regard to the
fact that 38,112 Assessments were dealt with.
