Street, and in accordance with a resolution passed by the
Vestry five tradesmen and five costermongers attended the
General Purposes Committee for the purpose of conferring
with the object of coming to a compromise, pending the
action of the London County Council. The London County
Council (General Powers) Bill, Session 1891, provided:—
"It shall be lawful for the Council from time to time

to existing markets and market rights, and the expediency
of establishing new markets in or near the administrative
County of London, and any matters relating or incidental
thereto, and to pay out of the County Fund the cost and
expenses of such inquiries not exceeding £1,000."
The Conference resulted in both parties agreeing to be
satisfied with the costermongers using the north side of
High Street, and the Triangle at the top of Rye Lane
where practicable, under the direction and regulation of
the street keeper. In accordance with the resolution of the
Vestry, notice was given by the Vestry Clerk that proceedings
would be enforced against persons, costermongers or
others, obstructing the south side of High Street, Peckham,
and the decision of the Vestry has been loyally carried out
by all parties.
