The deaths registered in Camberwell (see Table IX.)
during the year amounted to 4,011, of which 2,009 were of
males, 2,002 ot females; and of which 58 were returned for
Dulwich, 1,572 for Camberwell, 1,316 for Peckham, and
1,065 for St. George's. The deaths were more numerous
than those occurring in 1886 by 18. There was an increase
in Dulwich of 3, in Camberwell of 80, and in St. George's of
16, but a decrease of 81 in Peckham.
Of the 1,572 deaths returned for the sub-district of
Camberwell 333 occurred in the Workhouse and Infirmary,
and 122 in the two Lunatic Asylums, making a total of 455
deaths, which, though included in the mortuary returns of
this sub-district, no more belong properly to it than they do
to the other sub-districts of the Parish. In order to determine
the death-rates of the sub-districts it is necessary to
distribute these deaths proportionately among them all. This
has been done in Table VII., the last column of which gives
the corrected returns.
