The deaths registered in Camberwell during the year
amounted to 8768; of which 1882 were of males and, 1885
were of females; and of which 55 were returned from Dulwich,
1873 from Camberwell, 1359 from Peckham, and 981
from St. George's. The deaths were more numerous than
those in 1883 by 350. In Dulwich there was an increase of
13, in Camberwell of 46, in Peckham of 169, and in Saint
George's of 122 (see Table IX). Of the 1373 returned from
the sub-district of Camberwell, 278 occurred in the Workhouse
and Parochial Infirmary, and 77 in the Lunatic
Asylums, making a total of 355 deaths which (though included
in the mortuary returns of this district) no more
belong properly to it, than they do to the other sub-districts
of the parish. In order to determine the deathrates
of the sub-districts, it is necessary to distribute these
proportionately among them. This has been done in
Table VII; the last column of which presents the corrected
returns.
