that my estimates of population must be regarded as
mere estimates, founded on data which are liable to variations,
and therefore themselves liable to considerable
error.
During the year 1884, 7813 children were born in the
Parish of whom 3774 were boys, and 3539 weregirls. Of
the total number, 89 were born in Dulwich,2402 in Camber.
well, 2744 in Peckham, and 2078 in Saint George's. The
births were 380 in excess of those in the year 1883. There
was a decrease of 4 in Dulwich: but in every other sub.
district there was an increase:—in Camberwell of 198, in
Peckham of 117, and in Saint George's of 69.

The birth.rates per 1000 for 1883 and 1884 are given
in table VI. There is little difference in this respect between
the two years; and both shew (what has always
been observed) that the birth.rate of Dulwich, is not half
that for the whole parish; and it is considerably less than
half of that for Saint George's.
