In all these schemes of railways, tramways, &c., it
will be necessary that the vigilance of the Metropolitan
Board of Works, and the Vestry should be specially
exercised, so that Protecting Clauses both as to Working
and Construction may be introduced.
The question of the steep gradients on some of these
Tramway lines, will form a very important consideration
in addition to the various other matters already pointed
out.
SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY.
Notice has been lodged of the intention to apply for
an extension of the time allowed by Parliament for the
construction of a Line of Railway, "proposed to commence
by a junction with the Charing Cross Railway, at
or near Gravel Lane, Southwark, and terminating by a
junction with the Bricklayers Arms Branch Railway
near to St. James Road, in the Parish of Bermondsey."
I reported on this Scheme, in December, 1881, and it
appears at page 22 of the Annual Report for that year.
The Act was obtained in Session 1882.
DULWICH PARK.
A Plan has been lodged with the Vestry, by the
Metropolitan Board of Works, for the laying out of a
public park on the Dulwich College Estate.
As this matter is at this time receiving the consideration
of the Vestry, no further particulars will be required
in this report.
J. C. REYNOLDS,
Surveyor.
To the General Purposes Committee,
December Qth, 1884.
