(ix) The district—with Penge added—would be
as large in area as some of the divisions of
the Counties.
(x) The divisions settled by the Commissioners,
were generally approved.
(xi) Penge has never been associated with Camberwell
for any municipal, parochial, or
official purposes.
(xii) If Penge were added the total population
of the Borough would be 205,243, or sufficient
to entitle it to four Members.
(xiii) Having regard to the enormous increase
of population since 1881, and the further
probable increase at the rate of over 20,000
per annum, the claim for a fourth Member
is respectfully urged.
" The Prayer of the Petition, your Committee
suggest, should ask:—
(i) That Penge be not added.
(ii) That if the House approve of the amendment
of the Committee, a fourth Member be given
to Camberwell.
"Your Committee further recommend that the
Petition, as settled by a Parliamentary Counsel,
should be sealed at the meeting of the Vestry on
Easter Tuesday next; and that the Members for the
Borough of Lambeth should be requested to present,
and support it.
" All of which is submitted.
" (Signed) A. MIDDLEMASS,
Chairman
The Vestry adopted the recommendation of the
Report, and a petition was settled by Mr. Leonard
