A Special Vestry was held on the 11th of
January, to consider the Report and to pass such
resolutions as might be deemed expedient, the
Vestry after much deliberation finally adopted the
recommendation contained in the Report, and they
were sent to the Commissioners.
Subsequently the Commissioners forwarded a
Map shewing their proposed division of the borough,
and the Special Committee again met and considered
it. They requested their Chairman to support the
foregoing Report of the Committee, as adopted by
the Vestry, before the Commissioners.
In accordance with the instructions of the
Commissioners a public meeting was held at the
Vestry Hall on the 26th of January, "to hear
objections to the constitution of the several divisions
of the proposed Borough of Camberwell." It was
very numerously attended, and after much discussion
and several schemes having been submitted, Major
General Carey, R.E., the Assistant Commissioner,
promised that all the proposed schemes should
be submitted to the Commissioners for their careful
consideration. The Commissioners determined
that the Divisions of the Borough should be based
upon a partition of Wards 3 and 5. That portion of
No. 3 Ward West of Southampton Street, and South
of New Church Road, and Southampton Street, and
including the portion South of Camberwell New
Road, should be included in the Dulwich Division;
the section of No. 5 Ward, from Southampton Street
down to Hill Street, and inclusive of the West side
of Hill Street to the Canal, and the East side of
Commercial Road to, and including, the East side of
Southampton Street, should be included in the North
