of 20 cases.
In all approved cases, upon the works being
carried out, supervision has been given thereto by the
Vestry Officers.

The Metropolitan Board of Works, in anticipation
of the question of Metropolitan local
Government coming under the consideration of
Parliament, asked for information of Works carried
out by the Vestry since the passing of the Metropolis
Local Management Act, 1855, to enable Parliament
to judge of the efficiency with which the various local
authorities have carried out their powers. This
Return was compiled by your Surveyor, submitted to
the Vestry, and forwarded to the Metropolitan Board
of Works. A copy thereof is appended.
