Haulage Expenses incident to works performed by
the Vestry Horses, which under the former system
would have been paid for as "Extra Carting," &c. &c.
The cost of this additional work (other than that
which is due to Slopping and Watering) was £2,841.
Therefore, deducting the same from the total amount,
£11,940, leaves the actual cost of Slopping and
Watering, £8,636, producing a cost per mile run of
Road of £125.
The above calculation coincides very closely
with that which resulted under the contracting
system before alluded to, on the supposition that the
same rate of charge would have been maintained, but
the price per mile in all probability would at this
time have been far in excess of that formerly charged
under this head of Road Expenditure.
DISPOSAL OF SLOP AND ROAD SWEEPINGS.
This subject has for some time been under
the consideration of a specially appointed Committee
for the purpose. Communication has been opened
