Vestry Hall, Camberwell,
August 19th, 1880.
Gentlemen,
Having audited the Vestry Rates and Accounts
for the year ending 25th March, 1880, we duly sign
and thereby certify their correctness, subject to the
following observations.
1st.—The expenditure connected with the works
of the Parish, consisting of minute details which could
not be altogether satisfactorily checked by us, leaves
a responsibility still existing upon those who have
previously examined the accounts, which the audit
does not relieve.
2nd.—We assume that the Overseers have only
after due consideration, such as the various cases may
have required, excused, either wholly4 or in part, the
Vestry Rates in these many cases under our notice.
3rd.—We have observed instances where cheques
have been drawn, payable to an Officer of the Vestry,
for the payment of certain accounts that have not
been examined and passed by the Finance Committee.
We consider this irregular, and would in
future prefer (Petty Cash excepted) that cheques
