say, not only still exists, but is yearly increasing, and
the results from the want of which are self-evident,
on the occurrence of heavy storms, which tear up
the surface of the water tables, especially on roads
having a sharp incline, and which renders continuous
repairs necessary; and, on ordinary roads it is
scarcely less required in order to maintain the proper
channels for the surface drainage, as also the curvature
of the road.
I recommend that the following Footways (some now tar-paved), and which, having been laid several years ago, are, through the continuous traffic upon them, worn out, and for which latter reason I do not recommend a replacement of tar paving—I suggest that these Footways be paved with new Yorkshire Flagging, (as below):—
