ratepayers are well satisfied with the marked results
of the change ot system.
Horse Stock
&c.
Horse Stock.
The number of Horses now in possession of the
Vestry for this work is fifty-two. In total, fifty-nine
Horses have been purchased. Of this number,
to Lady-day 1878, seven have died from various
causes. It may be remarked that this mortalit)
(equalling nearly 12 per cent.), many being young
and unpractised horses, is not to be considered
excessive. There is no reason to doubt that this
percentage will be much lessened in ensuing years.
Cost of
Maintenance
of Horses.
The cost of maintaining this stock of Horses
during the past year has amounted to the sum of
£2,750, or £1 1s. per head per week.
