quality, and there was no trace of Lead or Copper
in any of the samples. It only remains to report
upon Malt Liquors, and to express once again the
opinion that very little Hops are employed.
I have analyzed as carefully as the smallness of
the samples admits, nine Porters and six Ales,
Owing to the rapid sale, I suppose, they are not
made to keep; but I have never seen such rapid
change and deterioration as some of these underwent
in the month of July. The rapidity with which, after
opening the bottles, fungoid growth overspread the
surface was quite a curious spectacle.

With reference to Alcoholic contents, these Porters represent a curious variety:
