Tliis Work liaving been re-let (see last Annual
Report) was unfortunately still further retarded in
its progress through the strikes in the Iron Districts
and the extraordinary rise in the price of labour and
materials, which your Committee have reason to
believe has entailed considerable loss upon the
Contractor, Mr. Peach.
He has, however, executed the work in a very
satisfactory manner, and it is now complete. Your
Committee believe that they can now refer to this
Work as one of those improvements which, from its
character of public necessity and convenience,
fully justifies the outlay of the Ratepayers' money
expended thereon.
