COLLECTION OF RATES.
The Vestry, in November, consented to a request by Mr. W. I.
Shenton to his having, on account of ill health, assistance from his
son, Mr. J. Shenton.
On 7th January, 1892, the Chairman of the Finance Committee
reported to the Vestry that Mr. W. I. Shenton had failed to pay
to the Bankers of the Vestry the balances by his account shewn to
be due. The subject was referred to the Finance Committee.
The Committee appointed Mr. E. S. Smith the Collector for the
North Ward, to collect the amounts of rates remaining unpaid to
Mr. W. I. Shenton.
On the report of the Finance Committee the Vestry dismissed
Mr. W. I. Shenton from the office of Collector of the West Division
of the East Ward. On the 4th of February, Mr. William Henry
Rust was appointed Collector of the West Division of the East
Ward, at a Salary of £150, rising by annual increments to a
maximum of £180. On the same day the Vestry directed that
Mr. W. X. Shenton be prosecuted. The proceedings were pending
on the 25th March, 1892.
The Vestry received from the Guarantee Society £1000, secured
by the policy for Mr. Shenton's fidelity.
The Finance Committee, after making enquiries as to the practice
adopted in other Parishes, presented a report as to the method of
Collection of Rates in future, which report has been ordered to be
printed.
ELECTRIC LIGHT & POWER.
