CANAL BRIDGES:-PRITCHARD'S ROAD BRIDGE,
GROVE ROAD BRIDGE.
The Rev. G. Morris in Juno attended with a deputation requesting
the Vestry to concur with the Shoreditch Vestry in application
to the London County Council to undertake as a Metropolian
improvement the widening of Pritchard's Road Bridge and the
approaches to it. Later the Vestry of Shoreditch made a similar
request. The letter was referred to the Parliamentary Committee, but
some doubt arose whether this Vestry by expressing its opinion of
the need of the improvement would not create an impression that
the Parish would be directly benefitted. The Parliamentary
Committee recommended that the matter should stand over till a
conference with members of the Shoreditch Vestry could be had.
In November a letter was received from the County Council
that the application of the Vestries of Shoreditch and Hackney
could not then be acceded to, but if after the expiration of the
Powers of the Regent's Canal City and Docks Company in August,
1892, the local authorities renewed their request and would contribute
to the cost, the matter would be considered. The letter
was addressed to this Vestry on the ground that "the locality
appears to be situated partly in Bethnal Green."
Complaint was made as to the danger which existed from the
narrowness of the Bridge over the Canal. The Works Committee
reported that while the powers and obligation of the Regent's
Canal City and Dock Railway Company continued it would be
useless to take steps to alter the bridge, but the Committee
requested the Surveyor to arrange for an alteration of the position
of the tramway rails to lessen the risk to traffic.
PUBLIC LIBRARIES ACTS.
