was 12.06, whilst the death rate from diseases other than those
mentioned was 8.7. An inspection of table "N" will shew that in
comparison with the general mortality of Bethnal Green for the
corresponding period, the Zymotic rate of the represented area is
treble, the Tubercular rate double, the Low Type rate nearly
quadruple, and the Respiratory rate more than double that of the
general rate of this district, whilst the deaths from diseases which
are not so much influenced by unhealthy surroundings are almost
idontical in the area and in the rest of the parish. This last fact
may bo taken as some evidence of the correctness of the census
taken under my directions. The deaths causing the greatest
mortality were the various pulmonary affections, such as Pneumonia
and Bronchitis, which would naturally be produced by breathing a
fœtid atmosphere such as exists in many of the houses. These
diseases caused nearly one third (30.65 per cent.) of the total
mortality in the area, Zymotic diseases caused one fourth (25.12 per
cent.) of the total mortality, Tubercular and Low Type diseases
caused each eleven per cent. of the mortality, and the remaining
twenty-two per cent. were attributed to diseases other than those
classified.
Detailed and comparative statistics are shown on the accompanying
tables.
