DEATH RATE.
Upon the basis of the estimated population, we shew a death rate
of 22.45 for the year 1887, this is one per thousand below that of
last year, but it is considerably above the General Metropolitan
Rate, which was only 19.6, and also above that of the Eastern
Districts of London, which was 21.9. The Rate in the West
Districts was 18.0; in the North 17.7; in the South 18.7; and in
the Central 26.2.
The General Metropolitan Doatli Rate for 1887—19.6—is tho
lowest recorded since the presont system of civil registration was
instituted. It may be remarked that two next lowest were those
recorded in the two immediately preceding years, 1885 and 1886,
when the figures were respectively 19.8 and 19.9.
In the following table are compared the mortality rates for
London and for Bethnal Green by quarters.
