I regret that there are still a large number of
macadam roads in the Parish without paved channels.
These aro difficult to keep in satisfactory order, as it
is almost impossible to form a channel to regular falls
with macadam, and tho steam roller, and in attempting
to do so tho curb and footway are frequently disturbed.
Street
Watering.
Tho quantity of water used lor watering tho streets
was 8,907,000 gallons, at a cost of £318 6s. 9d. A
sum of £38 14s. was also paid for tho use of meters.
Tramways.
Tho tramway of tho Grovo road between tho Canal
Bridgo and tho Mile End Boundary has been reconstructed
with tho steel girder rails; and for the
convenience of tho occupiers of promises situate between
St. Barnabas Church and Bunsen street, a crossing
was put in so that the cars can uso tho western road
when that on tho eastern sido is blocked, and the
obstruction and annoyance which has hitherto occurred
is now obviated.
Steam Roller.
The sum of £5 9s. 2d. has been received for the uso
of tho steam road roller, and paid to the Vestry's
account.
