REPORT
OF
The Proceedings of the Vestry of St. Matthew, Bethnal Green, from
the 25th March, 1887, to the 25th March, 1888.
SCAVENGING AND WATERING ROADS.
In 1886, Mr. W. Porter contracted to perform the work in
District No. 3 for 3 years, expiring in August, 1889, at £1,760
yearly. In August last the Vestry contracted for the performance
of the work:—
In District No. 1 with Mr. Crane for 2 years, at £1,750 yearly.
In District No. 2 with Mr. Stevens for 2 years, at £1,800 yearly.
The three contracts will therefore expire at the same time.
In October the Vestry decided to buy six thousand more
Galvanized Iron Dust Pails, which have since been delivered,
making the number purchased sixteen thousand.
COMPOSITION RATE.
A rate at three farthings in the pound was made by the Vestry
on the 21st July for the ordinary expenses of the then current
year.
In October an additional Composition Rate at a half-penny in
the pound was agreed to, to provide for the requisite repairs to St.
John's Church. A rate was made accordingly.
PROPOSED NEW TOWN HALL.
An offer of £4,000 has been made to the Trustees of the Poor
Lands for the ground between the Western End of Green Street,
