PROPOSED NEW TOWN HALL.
The Special Committee appointed, as mentioned in the last
Annual Report, presented a Report, which was considered on the
6th of May, and was approved and adopted.
In pursuance of a recommendation contained in the Report,
twelve Architects were invited to send in designs, sealed with
mottoes, in the usual way. The eight designs sent in were referred
to the Committee for examination. After examination, the designs
were submitted to Mr. Shoppee, who had been appointed assessor.
He presented a full, luminous Report upon each design, and recommended
that the first premium should be awarded to the author of
the design sent in under the name of "Orient;" and the second
premium to the author of the design sent in under the title of
"Use and Profit." He also reported that none of the other designs
could be recommended for a premium. The Yestry adopted a
Report by the Committee, recommending the award of the first
premium to the author of the design "Orient;" and the second
premium to the author of the design "Use and Profit;" that the

and the Public, and that the subject generally be referred back to
the Committee.

the Members of the Yestry, was presented, but debate arising, the
further consideration of the report was adjourned. At the Yestry
