The application for the renewal of a licence for a slaughter house at
the back of a butcher's shop at 326, Hackney road, was withdrawn,
and the licence was allowed to lapse, thus saving us the trouble of
opposing the renewal. The Sanitary Committee had decided not to
sanction the further use of these premises for the purpose, as the
slaughter house was very small, and the window of the living-room of
the house looked right into it.
A complete list is given below.

FISH CURERS.
All the premises in the occupation of fish curers were visited by the
Sanitary Committee, and notices were served upon them to effect
certain improvements in the construction of the smoke houses by the
erection of shafts of sufficient height to convey the smoke above
the adjoining houses; they were also required to amend their paving
and drainage arrangements.
Many of the fish curers complied with the notices, but it was
necessary to summon several. I am happy to be able to report a
marked improvement in the condition of most of them since the action
of the Committee.
CELLAK DWELLINGS.
In accordance with instructions received from the Metropolitan
Board of Works, the District Surveyors transmitted to the Vestry a

LewishamConcurs in the views expressed by the Vestry of St. Pancras, and are of opinion that legislative powers as to regulation of bakehouses should be given to Vestries and District Hoards, in addition to the powers now vested in the Government officers uuder the Factories Act.
FulhamThat it would be an advantage if bakehouses were licensed, and the consent of the local sanitary authority obtained before the licence is granted. As tar as the Fulham District Board is concerned the repeal of the Bakehouse Regulation Act has not done much harm, and the sanitary defects have been remedied uuder the provisions of the Nuisance Removal Acts.
St. Giles', Camber-well.Concurs generally with the opinion of the Vestry of St. Pancras, and states that, since the repeal of the Bakehouses' Regulation Act, about four years ago, no periodical inspection has been made by the factory inspectors, and that practically no supervision whatever is being exercised. That even where a visit has been made it is doubtful if a second visit is made to ascertain if suggested improvements have been carried out. There are 179 bakeries in Cambenvell, and only 29, as far as can be learned, have been visited by H. M. Inspector, and they are not now in as good a condition as they were three years ago.
PoplarThat the Vestries and District Boards ought to have control over bakehouses, and that the inspection under the Factories and Workshops' Act is a retrograde step. That no opposition has, however, been met with here in entering and inspecting bakehouses.
MaryleboneHave decided to take no action in the matter.
St. Mary, Nevvington. That provided the inspection by the Government inspector was carried out in a more systematic manner, no alteration in the existing legislation is necessary.
Wandsworth District.Does not express an opinion, or give any information to the inspection under the Factory and Workshops' Act, but forwards a report of an inspection made of the bakehouses in this district. The report shews that they are generally in a fairly good sanitary state.
