St. Mary Abbott's, Kensington. That the present legislation as to inspection is not satisfactory. That the Bakehouses' Regulation Act, 1803, should not have been repealed. That the parliamentary report shews the necessity for systematic inspection and sanitary supervision of bakehouses, and also shews that the inspection by Government ollicials is inadequate. That what is required is a Bakehouse Regulation Act, providing for the licensing of bakehouses, and conferring on the sanitary authority the power for regulation by bye-laws. This Vestry have, liowever, always continued to inspect the bakehouses in their parish.
St. Luke'sThat the present legislation affecting bakehouses is unsatisfactory. That this Vestry agree with St. Pancras in the opinion expressed, and are prepared to co-operate in obtaining larger powers of control.
BermondseyThat the present inspection is not satisfactory, and that the regulations should be made by the local authorities.
ClerkenwellVisits have been made to the bakehouses in this parish by the Medical Ollicer of Health and the Chairman of the Sanitary Committee, who are of opinion that the inspection made by the factory inspector is most unsatisfactory, especially as compared with that of the local sanitary authorities previous to the transfer of the duties in 1878. That the recent legislation on the subject is of a retrograde character.
St. George - in - the East. That as the duty of inspection of bakehouses for ordinary sanitary purposes is vested in the local authorities, the same authorities should have the enforcement of regulations with reference thereto. The Vestry of St. George is prepared to consider any course proposed to be taken for alteration of the law.
PlumsteadThis Board, without expressing any distinct opinion, forwards copy of letter sent to the Home Secretary and the Metropolitan Board of Works, dated 19th October, 1882, calling attention to the unsatisfactory state of the law, and pointing out that further legislation is now required to secure efficient inspection.
