The purchase of the new steam boiler meant that the range of services
provided at the Depot could be resumed with greater efficiency. Another
advantage of the proposed installation was that the steam supply to the
equipment of the laundry would be far better than in the past.
Offensive Business
Pur skin dressing is the only offensive business in the Borough and at
the beginning of the year was in operation at 2 factories.
Common Lodging Houses
There are none in the Borough.

population basis.

A report was submitted to the Health Committee in November following
the discovery of dry rot in the roof and floor Joists at the Mortuaiy. The
District Surveyor ordered that the inner office used by the Coroner's
Officers should be evacuated and a Dangerous Structure Notice was issued by
him on the Old Forensic Laboratory which adjoins the Mortuary building and
to the Coroner's Offices accommodation.
It was proposed to obtain a portable building to provide temporary
accomnodation for the Coroner's Officers so that works of construction and
eradication of dry rot could be carried out.
CLEAN AIR
My report last year referred tothehigh levels of sulphur dioxide within
Inner London generally, and drew attention to the fact that the City of London
had introduced legislation to enforce the use of low sulphur content oil in
boiler houses.
