Directions
During the year 157 Directions were given and there are now 2,362
houses in the Borough which are subject to Directions. Directions in respect
of 7 houses were varied so as to increase the number of individuals who
should occupy the houses concerned, the owners having provided additional
amenities.
Provision of Amenities
During the year 36 Notices were served under Section 15 of the Housing
Act 1961, as extended by Section 67 of the Housing Act 1964, for works to
render a property suitable for occupation by a number of individuals and
households smaller that the number accommodated for the time being on the
premises. 58 Notices were served to provide amenities for the number
accommodated for the time being on the premises* In 13 cases owners applied
for special grants to provide the additional amenities. 25 Notices were
complied with.
Housing Act 1964
A Notice under the provisions of Section 19 was served on an owner
requiring the improvement of a dwelling to the full standard as defined in
Section 43 of the Act.
Housing Act 1969
393 applications for Improvement Grant and 60 applications for Qualification
Certificates entailed well over 700 inspections by Public Health
Inspectors during the year.
The Department carried out surveys of houses in the Borough during the
year in conjunction with the Borough Architect & Planning Officer's Department
in respect of the following areas: -
Alfearn Road, Barbauld Road, Cressington Road, Eleanor Road,
Goldsmith's Row, Green Lanes, Kingshold Road, Leswin Road,
Listria Park, Lordship Grove, Montague Road, Richmond Road,
&akspeare Walk.
The approximate number of properties involved amounted to 1,400
entailing 1,600 visits.
In addition to this, a sample survey of the whole Borough was carried
out involving 1,000 properties entailing 1,300 visits.
Registration of Houses in Multiple 0ccupation
Informatory and Regulatory Scheme, 1971
The Scheme for the Registration of Houses in Multiple Occupation has
now been in operation for almost 2 years. In June, it was noted from a
survey of all such schemes in London that despite problems from lack of
staff, Hackney had registered the second largest number of properties.
