HOME NURSING
Bathing Service and Incontinent Laundry
the bathing service for elderly people was carried out at Shoreditch
Health Centre and during the year, 1, 026 baths were given. In addition home
bathing is undertaken in cases where a visit to the centre is not possible.
the number of baths given was 10, 150.
These figures all show an increase on previous years and are an indication
of the increase in the number of elderly persons in the borough.
Following the breakdown of the boiler at Millfields Centre it was
necessary to make alternative arrangements for the laundering of soiled
linen until new equipment was installed at the Centre. Hackney Group Hospital
Management Committee was able to offer the services of the laundry at
Hackney Hospital, but it was necessary to reduce the number of collections
and deliveries from two to one a week. This temporary arrangement was still
operating at the end of the year but it was hoped to be able to return to
the full service early in 1973. The number of articles laundered during
1972 totalled 17,860.
Loan of Equipment
Patients being nursed at home were able to obtain nursing equipment on
loan free of charge from the Council.
The following is a list of the Council's home nursing equipment most
of which was on loan throughout the year.
