Constant day to day liaison is maintained between the department and
the Visiting Medical Officers to the various Social Services establishments.
In addition joint liaison meetings are arranged from time to time between
the department and all the Visiting Medical Officers in order to discuss
common problems.
Senior Medical staff of this Department (Deputy Medical Officer of
Health and 3 Principal Medical Officers) have shared responsibility for
counselling services as follows:-
Dr. L. fry, Deputy Medical Officer
of Health and Deputy Principal School
Medical Officer
Children's residential establishments,
where liaison is carried out with
the visiting medical officer to
discuss environmental health problems
and child care problems etc.
The staff at the home have the
opportunity to participate in the
discussions.
Dr. A. G. Poulsen-Hansen, Principal
Medical Officer
Visits to homes for the elderly, to
discuss matters pertaining to the
care of old people with the visiting
medical officer and staff. This
P.M.0. is also able to act as a
direct contact with the Geriatricians
at the local hospitals.
Visits are made to adult training
centres for the mentally handicapped
and the responsibility for the
regular medico/social examinations
of trainees. All matters concerning
the health services are discussed
with the training centre staff.
Similarly, the day centres for the
mentally ill are also visited
regularly and all possible medical
advice is given to the staff.
Dr. J. Davies, Principal Medical
Officer
Works closely with the Social Workers
on all medical activities concerning
adoption and the boarding out of
children.
Dr. M. Mollison, Principal Medical
Officer
Advises on schooling and special
school placement.
Case work is of course carried out on behalf of persons by the medical
and nursing staff at field level as for any other child or adult in need
living in the Borough.
the Chief public Health Inspector is also available for advice in
relation to the structure of premises or adaptations if further guidance is
required.
