The birth rate in the Borough continued to be higher than that for
England and Wales in general and that for Greater London. It is also higher
than that for the two neighbouring Boroughs of Islington and Tower Hamlets,
but it still reflects the falling national trend having dropped from 19.7 in
1967 to 18.4 per 1,000 live births this year. The birth rate for Greater
London has actually shown a slight rise.
