SMALLPOX No case of smallpox occurred, but there were 23 contacts of the
disease requiring surveillance. There were 15 consultations with local medical
practitioners, and in each case smallpox was excluded.
INTERNATIONAL SANITARY REGULATIONS (WHO Regulations No. 2). International
Certificates of vaccination against Smallpox to the number of 2,287 and 13
against Cholera were duly authenticated.
WHOOPING COUGH. The number of cases notified was 59 as compared with 34 in
1961 and 326 in 1960.

PUBLIC HEALTH BACTERIOLOGY. The 3,943 specimens submitted for examination to the Public Health Laboratory were reported on as follows:-

Five of the specimens of faeces submitted which were positive for
salmonella paratyhpi were in respect of two chronic carriers, from whom
specimens of urine and faeces are submitted for examination every three months.
In addition to the above, 10 samples of food were submitted for
bacteriological examination in connection with the investigation of cases of
food poisoning, food complaints, etc.
