DYSENTERY (Flexner). Seventeen cases were notified. Thirteen were
associated with day nurseries.
ENCEPHALITIS (Post infectious). The one case notified made a satisfactory
recovery.
ENCEPHALITIS (Infective). The one case notified made a satisfactory recovery.
MENINGOCOCCAL INFECTION. The one case notified proved fatal.
MEASLES. Of the 1,138 cases notified 162 were admitted to hospital.
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM, Five of the nine cases notified were babies born
to Hackney mothers and four were babies of women normally resident outside
the borough.
PARATYPHOID FEVER B. One case was notified, a girl aged 9 years
POLIOMYELITIS (Infantile paralysis). Some 8 persons were admitted to
hospital suspected to be suffering from poliomyelitis, but the diagnosis was
confirmed in only one paralytic case:-

PUERPERAL PYREXIA. Of a total of 82 cases of Puerperal Pyrexia 81 were
associated with hospital confinements, and one case with a home confinement
only 55 of the total number of cases related to Hackney residents.
SCARLET FEVER Notifications of this disease numbered 70 as compared with
92 in the previous year and 128 in 1960; 15 cases were admitted to hospital.
