There were 9 prosecutions during the year for food offences, namely:—

Selling bread unfit for human consumption in that it contained a foreign body — an insect.Defendants were granted an absolute discharge on payment of £5 5s. costs.
Selling horseflesh as rationed meat Failing to display notice of sale of horseflesh.Defendants were discharged and successfully prosecuted their shop manager for the offence.
Supplying horseflesh when not asked for.
Selling loaf of bread containing a broken safety razor blade.Fined £5 and £2 2s. costs.
Failing to take all reasonable precautions to prevent risk of contamination of food in the rooms used for the purpose of storage, exposure and sale of food intended for human consumption by permitting refuse and filth to accumulate in the rooms and not observing due cleanliness, both in regard to the rooms and all articles, apparatus and utensils therein.Fined £10 and £4 4s. costs.
Unlawfully using premises for the manufacture of ice cream for the purpose of sale without the aforesaid premises having been previously registered for such use.Fined £5 and £2 2s. costs.
Selling fancy pastry containing a beetle.Fined £10 and £3 3s. costs.
Selling a sliced loaf of bread containing dirty extraneous matter.Case dismissed.
Selling fruit madeira cake containing a piece of sacking.Defendants were granted an absolute discharge on payment of £5 5s. costs.
Selling a loaf of bread containing dirty foreign matter.Fined £3 and £2 2s. costs.
