against this conviction, and the appeal was heard on the 3rd and
5th July, 1951, but was dismissed, the Council being awarded a

Section 11—Demolition Orders.
Demolition orders were made by the Council in respect of the
following nine premises:—
16, 20, 22 and 24, Bentley Road; 12, Hedgers Grove;
22, London Fields, East Side; 58 and 60, Templar
Road; 3, Wick Road.
Following the service of the demolition order, the owners of
22, London Fields, East Side, lodged an appeal against the Council's
refusal to accept an undertaking to use the premises for storage
purposes in lieu of making the Order. This appeal was heard at
Shoreditch County Court on the 7th March, 1952, when the hearing
was adjourned until the 17th March, 1952, to enable both parties
in the matter to reconsider the position. On this latter date the
Judge made an order embodying an undertaking agreed between the
Council and the owner, and the owner, having substantially
succeeded in his appeal, was awarded two-thirds of his costs on
Scale 3.
In addition to the unfit houses in respect of which demolition
orders were made, another house, 1, East Bank, was represented
as unfit, but the owner demolished the premises following preliminary
steps with a view to making a demolition order being
taken by the Council.
During the year the following three houses, which were the
subjects of demolition orders made in previous years, were
demolished:—
148, Middleton Road; 14 and 16, Morning Lane.
Undertakings.
Following the service of preliminary notices under Section 11
of the Housing Act, 1936, the Council accepted an undertaking to
render the house fit in respect of the following premises:—
84, Durley Road.
During the year the undermentioned house, which had been
the subject of an undertaking accepted in 1950, was made fit, and
the undertaking was accordingly cancelled:—
26, Warwick Villas.
