together with notes on the activities of other local authorities in
this respect which he has prepared will be of the greatest assistance
to the incoming Medical Officer of Health. It is a great pity that
financial consideration prevents the acquisition of a sound projector,
a very necessary piece of equipment for the dissemination
of health propaganda.
I also wish to express my thanks to Mr. Spearing, Senior
Housing Clerk, who, in addition to carrying out his duties in
connection with housing most efficiently, has given me valuable
assistance in the preparation of memoranda and reports.
Mrs. Stephens has been entrusted with my secretarial work
for approximately 13 years and many matters of a confidential
nature arising therefrom. This work has been carried out in a
capable and conscientious manner and is worthy of the highest
praise.
All of these officers have had long experience in the work of
the Public Health Department and will be found to be very helpful
and efficient, both generally and in their respective established
duties.
With regard to the day-to-day administration of services
transferred to the London County Council, the fact that Dr. Scott
has succeeded Sir Allen Daley as County Medical Officer of Health,
is, so to speak, a guarantee that the good relations which have
obtained between the Hackney Public Health Department and
the London County Council administration will continue.
Mrs. Rochman, the London County Council officer who since
the transfer of the personal health services has continued working
from the Town Hall, has given me most valuable assistance both
in dealing with the eight day nurseries in the borough and as my
correspondence clerk in all matters connected with the day-to-day
administration, and her services will be of great help to whoever
follows me as Medical Officer of Health.
It again gives me pleasure to record my thanks to all members
of the Public Health Committees and the Chairmen of the
Committees, whose sympathetic understanding of the difficulties
confronting the Public Health Department has done much to
encourage the department throughout the past year and during the
preceding years when so much difficulty has been experienced.
My thanks are also due to all members of the staff of the Public
Health Department for the conscientious and efficient manner
in which they have at all times performed their duties.
G. H. DART,
Medical Officer of Health,
