The names and addresses of 95 persons remained on the
Council's list of persons entitled to sell poisons under Part 2 of the
Pharmacy and Poisons Act, 1938. No action was necessary in
respect of any offence under the Act.
ADULTERATION OF FOOD.
There was no reduction in the number of samples taken for analysis, which included

Warnings were given to the vendors of 20 of the adulterated
formal samples and legal proceedings were taken as regards 2
samples of milk and 2 samples of other foods. The summonses
against the milk vendors were dismissed under the Probation of
Offenders Act on payment of £3 3s. costs in each case. The proceedings
in the remaining two cases were not successful.
There were a number of complaints during the year of milk
being supplied in dirty bottles and in one case proceedings were
taken, the summons being dismissed under the Probation of
Offenders Act on payment of £7 7s. costs. Action was also taken
as regards the sale or exposure for sale of a cake and six bottles of
dry ginger ale which were unfit for human consumption, and fines
totalling £8 with £2 2s. costs in each case were imposed.
The average composition of all formal milk samples taken
during the year was 3.4 per cent. milk fat and 8.82 per cent. solids
not fat.
