A report by Mr. H. C. Middleton, L.D.S., R.C.S. (Edin.), the
Council's Dental Surgeon, is given here:—
Dental Clinics.
"The dental treatment offered at the Clinics meets with a
steady response. Looking back over the last ten years, I can report
an improvement in mouth conditions. Pioneer instruction in oral
hygiene is bearing fruit, and the work at the Clinics and that of
the Health Visitors is teaching the mothers to look upon dental
treatment as a necessary contribution to their physical well-being.
During the past year arrangements have been made for every
child over 18 months of age to be given an opportunity of dental
inspection at the Clinics. Any necessary treatment is given to the
children, and the mothers are instructed in dental care. Records
of these routine inspections are made and invitations are issued
for re-inspection in three or six months. For the mothers, the
removal of septic teeth and replacement by dentures is the chief
work. The gas and oxygen anaesthetic used for extractions is
greatly appreciated and favourable comment is often heard on the
Richmond Road Clinic and its equipment.''

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT.
(Alderman C. Fisher Yates, J.P.)
The beginning of another year provides me with the opportunity of recording
some of the happenings during 1938.
I would like first of all to place on record the official visit on February the
1st of His Worship the Mayor (Alderman H. W. Capell, J.P.) and the Mayoress
(Mrs. H. W. Capell).
