The annual licences in respect of the keeping of cows at the three cow-houses in the Borough were renewed by the Borough Council during the year. Particulars of these premises are given below:—

Forty-four inspections were made of the cow-houses during
1935, and no nuisances or contraventions of the Order requiring
formal action were observed.
The number of visits paid to the dairies and milkshops was
808. There were 4 instances in which it was necessary to serve
notices regarding the use of dirty utensils and 9 notices were served
requiring the cleansing or repairing of premises used as dairies.
Proceedings were authorised in two instances during the year
against milk vendors for contraventions of the Milk and Dairies
(Consolidation) Act, 1915. The first summons, for selling milk
from a vehicle which did not bear the name and address of the
registered dairyman, resulted in the imposition of a fine of £2 with
£1 1s. costs. The second summons was in respect of the carrying
on of the trade of a dairyman without being registered by the
sanitary authority for that purpose and the defendant in this case
was fined £1.
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1923.—The special designations
under which milk may be sold or offered or exposed for sale in
pursuance of this Order are:—
(a) " Certified "
(b) " Grade A (Tuberculin Tested)" ;
(c) " Grade A," and
(d) " Pasteurised."
The Borough Council is authorised to grant licences to any
person other than a producer to sell such graded milk. The licences
are valid for a period ending on the 31st December of the year in
which they are granted.
