One hundred and sixty flats are now being erected upon the
Banister Street site, and it is proposed to provide 390 tenements on
the Nisbet Street site.

During 1934 the following areas were represented to the Borough Council as clearance areas:—

In 1934 I represented the High Hill Ferry area and the Borough
Council was prepared to deal with this area which the County
Council in 1929 had stated would be left to the Borough Council.
However, following my representation, the County Council
intimated that it would take over this area, dealing with it in three
sections as clearance and re-housing sites.
A representation has been made by me to the Borough Council
since the close of 1934 in respect of the Dyssel Street area—42 houses
—and inspections are proceeding with a view to the early representation
of other areas.
Clearance Orders have, therefore, been made as regards all the
areas with which the Borough Council agreed to deal under the fiveyear
programme framed in 1930, whilst the areas for which the
County Council accepted responsibility are being dealt with in their
turn and as re-housing accommodation in the district can be provided.
This programme included all the areas which were then
considered to be in urgent need of attention, but it was recognised
that there were in the Borough many properties which would need
to be similarly dealt with within a few years.
On the 16th January, 1935, a conference was held between
representatives of the London County Council and the Borough
Council for the purpose of arriving at an understanding as to the
further areas which should be dealt with by the County Council and
which by the Borough Council, and a list was agreed which will be
considered in my 1935 Report.
The steps so far taken by the Borough Council towards the
re-housing of persons living in clearance areas include:—
