In the case of Sub-section 7, it was considered that the process
of cooking referred to preservation by cooking and not to preparation
for immediate consumption. It was stated that Sub-section 7
should be read in conjunction with the rest of the Section, so that,
for instance, the cooking of hams (preservation for some period)
required registration, while fish frying (immediate consumption)
should not be registered under the Act. It is obvious that there
is going to be considerable difficulty in probably many instances
before this Section is fully understood.
As the amount of work entailed in securing the registration of
the large number of premises coming within the scope of Section 5
(1) (a) (ii) of this Act could not be undertaken entirely by the two
Food Inspectors, the District Sanitary Inspectors were required to
distribute the forms of application for registration to all food dealers
other than butchers and to report upon the suitability or otherwise
of the premises for registration. The butchers' premises and any
special points of difficulty are dealt with by the Food Inspectors.
The following table shows the additions to and deletions from
the Register of Ice Cream premises during the year:—
Number of premises on the Register on 31st December, 1931 203
Number of premises removed from the Register during the year 44
Number of premises added to the Register during the year 39
Number of premises on the Register on 31st December, 1932 198
During the past year 381 visits to premises where ice cream
is made, stored or sold were paid by the Sanitary Inspectors, and
17 notices were served in respect of unsatisfactory conditions.
The premises which had been registered under Section 5 (1)
(a) (ii) of the Act up to the end of the year are shown in the
following summary:—
